Upcoming Special Election QuestionOn March 2, 2017, Ellsworth County, Kansas, will hold an election asking voters to impose a one-half percent (0.5%) Retailers' sales tax (the "New Sales Tax"), with 50% of the sales tax proceeds to be applied to pay the costs of constructing, improving and maintaining bridges in the County, and 50% of the sales tax proceeds to be applied to pay the costs of providing health care services in the County by Ellsworth County Medical Center. This is not an additional tax.
It is the Commissioner’s intention to secure this one-half percent (0.5%) retailers' sales tax to relieve property taxes. The County is required to maintain and replace bridges per state guidelines and our 20 year old Hospital is in need of work. If we do not secure this one-half percent (0.5%) retailers' sales tax, the burden will fall on property owners, instead of every person who does business within our County.
